McFarlane & Partners has extensive experience in geotechnical investigations for residential construction and extensive experience in the design and assessment of residential footing systems for reactive clay foundation soils.
Some of McFarlane & Partners Pty investigations in assessing cracked walls and building distress follow the below works:
- carrying out an inspection of the site and recording the major crack locations and site features;
- carrying out floor level measurements;
- reviewing the original geotechnical report and the slab and footing design documentation;
- reviewing other documents including reports by other consultants;
- commenting on the likely causes of the cracking; and
- discussing appropriate action and remedial works.
John McFarlane
John McFarlane is an experienced Geotechnical and Structural Engineer and have been the Principal Engineer for a firm of Consulting Engineers since 1984. He was a founding member and past Chairman of the Foundation and Footings Society of Victoria (FFSV). The FFSV was formed in 1991 and John was on the committee from 1991 until 2010. John is still an active member of FFSV. He is also a Member of the Association of Consulting Structural Engineers Victoria (ACSEV), joining the association in about 1993. John served on the committee of the ACSEV for about 10 years. John is a past President, Life Member and current active member of the association.
John has extensive experience in the structural design of residential and commercial buildings. John’s structural design experience dates back to 1986 and is still actively involved in structural and geotechnical design, including the supervision of and mentoring of engineers working at McFarlane & Partners.
John has considerable experience in the assessment of building defects and the preparation of independent expert reports. John’s involvement in expert engineering dates back to 1998 and has prepared more than 400 Expert Reports on structural and geotechnical matters. John’s expert engineering experience includes the inspection and assessment of building damage.
